My Favourite Vendors » Spruce Vintage Rentals

Recently, I had the pleasure to meet the ladies behind Spruce Collective and Spruce Vintage Rentals in Abbotsford, BC. As a Vancouver wedding photographer always looking to photograph unique, bohemian inspired products and anything vintage, rustic or antique, I instantly fell in love with both the store and the rental space. Spruce has been around since September, 2012 and have since gained a wonderful reputation with couples and vendors in the Lower Mainland.
The Spruce ladies are incredibly nice and helpful and I’m so happy to see at least one of my 2015 wedding using rentals from their studio to spice up their wedding. The pieces they rent out are beautiful and you can tell a lot of work goes into the planning and decorating process as they are on the hunt for creative pieces throughout their travels. I love love love the large collection of chairs, rugs and tables as well as hundreds of personal finishing touches for weddings such as suitcases, trunks, books, glassware and barrels.
Having personally worked with them on a stylized shoot, I can genuinely say they are incredibly nice and accommodating and provide great customer service. If you are interested in visiting their studio and seeing what they have to offer, visit their website to see their lookbook or make an appointment.
Below are some questions from my interview with the ladies of Spruce. Take a look for some useful information if you are thinking of renting decor and furniture for your Vancouver wedding .. I promise, you’ll fall in love and have some amazing photos to remember it all :)

Tell me a bit about Spruce Collective and Spruce Vintage Rentals..
The five owners (Elisa, Lily, Monica, Jessica + Kevi) met as vendors at vintage markets in their hometown of Abbotsford, BC and, after a series of very serendipitous events, found themselves opening a brick + mortar store.
What kind of services do you offer?
From custom backdrops to styled tabletops and perfect lounge set-ups, we can take care of adding the pretty to your party. Our display creation services range from advising which rental pieces to use and how, to orchestrating the layout and style concept of your entire event. We can give you the tools to put it together yourself, or bring our team on site to carry it through to the end.
What is the difference between the studio and the store?
The store is open 7 days a week and offers an well-curated selection of new and vintage home decor, as well as a great selection of paper goods and a women’s boutique. It’s truly a lifestyle store that offers something for everyone.
The rental studio offers personal service where discerning brides or event planners can spend time putting together the exact collection of rental pieces to complete the overall look they are trying to achieve. Whether you’re in need of larger furniture pieces or smaller accent pieces we specialize in offering vintage and eclectic items that are both tasteful and unique.
What kind of trends do you think are in style this year when it comes to decor?
Right now we are seeing a trend towards a colorful palette with accents of gold. The bohemian style is defiantly a major influence.
If a bride is looking for something you don’t have, how much can you guys do to accommodate her style?
We try to work with each brides overall theme for her special day. Given enough time, we can usually locate the desired piece or find something that still achieves the same overall feeling.
Is there a growing trend in renting decor versus buying?
Most brides are very busy, sourcing unique and special items is something that is best delegated to a person or team with great resources. That’s us!
How do you decide what pieces to add to your collection? Where do you get them from?
All five partners have a keen eye for vintage and eclectic finds. Special items can be found everywhere from estate sales to cross country road trips. Those are our favourite!
How often do you upgrade your collection?
New pieces are added weekly, sometimes daily if we find a treasure trove.
How far in advance of their weddings do brides usually have to reserve pieces?
For specific requests we advise to book as soon as possible, to guarantee you get your first choice. However midweek or off season we can usually accommodate last minute requests.
